[PHF-7] 4 Desconstruções (2015/rev. 2016) for trumpet trio.
Composed and dedicated: Fernando Ferreira Neiva, Klebber Pierre Gonçalves, Paulo Vitor Pereira.
This collection of miniatures is freely inspired on the concept of Déconstruction developed by Jacques Derrida, which criticizes the relationship between text and its meaning. Here, the processes are extended to the syntax of the implicit forms, such as the Fugue in the fourth piece, but also applied in harmony, counterpoint and other structural elements to the comprehension and formal cohesion of the musical discourse.
The basic material for the piece is the collection of three minor harmonic scales: C#, D and Eb. They are inaudible in a “pure sense” until the fourth piece as the main melodic theme of the fugue. In that way, the scale of D is presented throughout the pieces as the pitch “gravitational center”. Several relations are adopted, specially between neighbor scales (D in relation to Eb, and C# in relation to D). The third piece is an interlude that configures an exception to the form, given its pitch material is solely based on C, B and G, where:
C – is the only chromatic note missing in the relation between D and Eb;
B – is the only chromatic note missing in the relation between D and C#;
G – is the only chromatic note missing in the relation between Eb and C#.
